Dr. Goldie, under pretence of a sleeping draught, gave an emetic, and she is now out of danger. At the suggestion of Captain Archer, R.N., the reception committee have decided to request the Admiral to allow a night attack on the forts by the Warships’crews. A yachting display in the harbor has been abandoned.
A quarrel took place in the forecastle of the barque Northern Chief. One of the crew was seriously injured and has been removed to the hospital. The steamer Herald, which left Onehunga for Greymouth yesterday, has been signalled returning to port. Waihi, Saturday. Before the Conciliation Board, Bainbridge, an engineer, examined, said the late of pay should be the same as at Reefton, 11s 8d a shift. Tho Court adjourned till Wednesday, when it will meet at the Thames.
Wellington, last night. The Dairy Commissioner states that the manufacture of factory butter in Auckland district this season has increased 47 per cent, compared with the output of the previous season. Dunedin, last night. The billeting scheme as regards the Tongariro’s troops has been abandoned. Peninsula County population is 2563, as against 2645 in 1896 ; Taieri County 7179, as against 6950 ; Waikouaiti County 4080, as against 4380.
