A HUGE MONOPOLY,
(To the Editor.)
Sik, —The suggestion that a license for a now hotel, to be built at the corner of Bright street anil Gladstone road, should bo granted at tho next quarterly licensing meeting should have the support of all practical and common-sense people. One has only to consider the high prices that have been paid for hotel properties during the last twelve months do recognise the injustice of limiting tho number of houses. Why should wo not have freetrade in tho liquor as well as any other trade'? So long as a man is compelled to eroct a good building, and comply with the law, and soil the bost liquor he should bo granted a license. Why should men who wish to embark their capital in this trade bo debarred from doing so'? Baise your license fees if you like, and compel men to erect substantial buildings, but do not build up a monopoly such as you aro doing, and fatten the few at tho expense of the many.—l am, etc., Iconoclast,
