Late Shipping.
THE SCOW URUROA. A SMART PASSAGE. ' The scow Ururoa (Captain C. Olsen) arrived from Newcastle at two o’clock yesterday afternoon, and was berthed at the town wharf at seven o’clock last-even-mg. Tho vessel made a very fast passage from Newcastle, almost a record to this' port, tho tune occupied being a little over ten days. Captain Olsen reports that he left Newcastle on April 24th with a strong westerly breeze,' which continued for two days and then dropped, changing to the south and blowing hard with heavy seas, which carried him to Cape Maria Van Dieman. The scow was off the Cape on the sixth day out. Light variable winds were experienced down the coast. The vessel brings 312 tons of coal consigned to Messrs Kennedy and Evans. BARQUE EMPREZA. The barque Empreza, 236 tons (Captain E. A. Stenbcck), which arrived in the bay on Saturday morning from Newcastle, N.S.W., was cleared by the Health Officer, Dr Williams, during tho forenoon. Captain Stenbeck, reports leaving Newcastle on April 20th, and experienced heavy north-westerly winds across the Tasman Sea. When two days out tho vessel had to heave to owing to the severity of the weather for 36 hours. On tho 28th Cape Maria Van Dieman was signalled with a ,request to report, and off Cape Brett he signalled a large steamer, and also asked to be reported, but neither request was acceded to. The Empreza was off East Cape on the 30th, when she struck the recent heavy gale. She brings 310 tons of coal consigned to the Gisborne Gas Company and Messrs Clayton Bros., 100 tons of which will bo lightered.
