From a good start tho Now South Wales crew were best away, and maintained tho lead to Blatalaud Point, where tho Victorians, whoso form throughout was much superior to any of tho others, forged ahead. Tho local crew stuck manfully to their work and made some good spurts towards the finish, but could not overhaul the Victorians, who won by a length and a-quarter. Queensland and South Australia were practically out of it early in the race. The six South Australian men originally chosen were sick, substitutes replacing them. The time was 17m. 425. The amateur sculling championship was won easily by Daley, New South Wales, who beat Slack, of Queensland.
