A SEAMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED. HIT BEHIND THE EAR WITH A CAPSTAN BAR, (By Telegraph- ’. .ess Association.) Auckland, Saturday. A quarrel occurred in the forecastle of the barque Northern Chief last night, resulting in one of the seamen, a Scandinavian named Edward Lund, being dangerously hurt. It appears that the crew went ashore in the evening and returned shortly before midnight. A quarrel arose, which ended in Lund being struck behind the right ear with a capstan bar. The blow rendered the man unconscious, and in this state he still remains at tho hospital. At the Police Court this morning Amel Brown was charged with having done grievous bodily harm to Edward Lund, by striking him on tho head with a capstan bar. Sub-Inspector Mitcboll said that the hospital authorities regarded tho caso as a critical one. Accused was remanded till Tuesday.
