The Borough Council this morning decided to place a portion of a reserve under offer to the Government as the site for the new post-office at JG3O per foot. The Council also decided to have plans of abattoirs prepared similar to those of tho Nelson abattoirs. Wellington, last night. The Chief Justice granted a motion to strike off tho list an action brought by Bouvy against the Count Do Courts, French Consul, for damages for malicious prosecution and false imprisonment, holding that no cause of action was -shown. Leave to appeal has been granted. Mr R. Beetlniin, of Christchurch, has been granted extended leave of absence to visit England. Mr Bcetham, S.M. for North Canterbury, will take Magisterial work in Christchurch, and Dr McArthur will be transferred from Wellington to take up Mr Bishop's duties. Tho census shows the population of Christchurch city to be 17,825, as compared with 16,964 in 1896, The total population for Christchurch city and suburban boroughs is 46,053, as compared with 42,158. The Federation Commissioners have travelled about SOOO miles in New Zealand and Australia. Six thousand invitation cards are being prepared for issue by the Government in connection with the receptions to the Duke and Duchess of York in the four centres.
