AUCKLAND SPECIAL.
(Special to Times.) Auckland, last night. Mr P. Martin returned to Gisborne and Napier with Matcroa and Tahokc (Into Here), by the Elingamito to-day. Tho East Coast horses engaged at the Auckland races liavo been very unsuccessful.
THE LINDA WEBER. A white-painted brigantine was sighted oil' the East Cape on Saturday last by tho s.s. Zealaudia. This may be the. Linda Weber, now five weeks out from Gisborne to Ngunguru or Hokianga. A heavy southerly gale was experienced shortly after the Linda Weber left Gisborne, and she may have been blown out to sea. A heavy westerly gale was blowing whon the Zealaudia sighted the brigantine, and Captain Ilipgravc informs me that ho is of opinion that she would run to one of tho coastal ports for shelter. THE DUKE'S CARRIAGE.
Tho railway car being specially constructed at tho railway workshops for the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall to travel in to Rotorua is beginning to make a presentable appearance, and is so far advanced as to allow the furnishing of tho different compartments to bo put in hand. This has been entrusted to tho Tonson Garlick Company. In the Royal compartment a lar (T c upholstered Chcsterheld settee, itli armchairs to match, form the principal articles, together with walnut revolving bookcase and richly carved table in tho same wood, with half a dozen side chairs in keeping with the above. The balance of the furniture consists of delicate rattan, beautifully upholstered, with walnut occasional table and footstool, richly carved, together with sundry articles. Tho whole will present a very picturesque appearance when completed, and ono of comfort. TIIE TREMIER'S MOVEMENTS.
In a private wire the Premier says he will be detained for a few days in Greymouth, and has determined to abandon his visit to Melbourne. He promises, with Mrs Seddou, to be in Dunedin at the welcome to “ our sons ’ returning from the front by the s.s. Tongariro. Mrs Morice, the Premier’s daughter, who has boen seriously ill at Grcymouth, is much improved in health. EIRE INSURANCE PREMIUMS. Tho ‘Wellington Chamber of Commerce, in protesting against a general increase of insurance premiums, points out that it is notorious that in some districts the fare losses have been extremely high, which is the outcome of over insurance, arising from carelessness or over competition among tho underwrite s. It is suggested that the latter should combine to make tho owners of insured properties bear a proportion of the risk by reducing the amount of insurance to below tho actual value.
A MINER KILLED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.)
Auckland, last night. A fatal accident has occurred at the Grown Mine, Karangahakc. Thorpas Ellei'v, aged about 23, was found, dead and in a mutilated condition. Itissur : misod that he fell from No. 5 to No. 6 Jeyel, and was crushed by the pumping machinery. CENSUS RETURNS.
