CENSUS RETURNS.
(By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, last night. The census returns give the population of the Borough of Mornington at 4009, as against 5584 in 1896. The total for Port Chalmers is 2056, as against 1901, shipping being 149. The interior retui-ns are now compete for Dunedin and suburbs. Unofficial figures give the total as 53,294; The preponderance of females is marked in almost every district, the total excess of females over males in Dunedin and suburbs .being 2518. This, however, is less than five years ago, when the number was 2545. • Auckland, last night. Census of Onehunga Borough is 3015, as against 2913 in 1896 aud 2924 in 1891,
