A SAD CASE

By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, last night. At Wyndham yesterday the adjourned inquest on the body of the infant found buried in a gutter near tho-township, was resumed. The medical evidence was that the child hud breathed, but the mother having no attendance to the infant, it might have been suffocated. A verdict was returned accordingly. Barbara Cushnic, the mother of tho infant, aged 14 years and three months, was thereafter charged with concealment of birth. She pleaded guilty, and was remanded to the Supreme Court for sentence, bail being allowed. John Wood, charged with an offence under the protection of women law, aforesaid girl being the subject, was committed for trial at the Supreme Court. Tho girl, in her evidence, said the accused was not the father of the child.
