In his statement, debtor said that five years ago he met with an accident, and was laid up for about eight weeks with a broken collar-bone and ribs. His daughter was injured at the same time, and this accident cost him about £SO, besides prejudicing his position in other ways. In addition, he had had a considerable amount of sickness in his house since the time of the accident. He got behind in his accounts, and had been unable to reduce them out of his wages, which amounted to 30s a week. The immediate cause of his filing was that one creditor issued a summons against him, and others had been pressing for payment. He had no prospect of discharging his debts, and was advised to file. He had a wife and five children to support. He had no offer to make to his creditors, Debtor stated he had been in the district forty-eight years. He left at the time of the massacre, and returned seventeen years ago. Since then he had been in constant employment at bushfelling and general station work on Arai Station, earning wages at the rates of 30s a week. The cause of his bankruptcy was the accident be met with four years ago. He was laid up twelve weeks, and received his wages during that time. A horse worth £ls died a week after the accident. The accident cost him £SO. The buggy belonged to his wife, and the horse he used he borrowed.
- Mr Harrison questioned the bankrupt as to the cause of his failing, and said it would have been better for him to have consulted his creditors, and saved the expense of filing. He pressed the bankrupt to make an offer, but he declined, saying that he could not possibly do so, as ho was only earning 30s a \jgek,
