A suggestion has been made by the Federal Premier that the birthday of the late Queen bo kept as a perpetual national holiday. The State Premier considers there are already too many public holidays. It is not intended to adopt the suggestion. At the annual meeting of the Mutual Life Association of Australasia the report was adopted. It showed new business amounting to £628,388, New Zealand heading the list of branch offices. Be newal premiums had alsp increased about £IO,OOO. The interest revenue continued to show prompt and remunerative investment. The first three years' of the London branch had closed without a single death. Messrs AY. J. Triekett, Russell, and Barton were re-elected directors. Melbourne, April 23. Good rain has fallen throughout the State, and very heavy in Melbourne, where over 31- inches were recorded yesterday. The rain was accompanied by a heavy gale, and a rough sea is running on the coast.
