FURIOUS GALE.
A SHIP ASHORE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, April 23. The gale continues with unabated fury. A ship, name unknown, is ashore at Cape Patteson. . No further particulars are to hand. Received April 24, 1.10 a.m. The vessel ashore at Capo Paterson is believed to be the George T. Hay, bound from Now York to Sydney. The accounts regarding the supposed wreck are meagre and conflicting. Two messages have been received from Queenscliff from different sources. One states that there is a large ship ashore at Cape Paterson, and the second that the ship George T. Hay, from New York to Sydney, A in distress and in a perilous position off Cape Woolamai. It is believed thatboth messages refer to the John T. Hay, and that she went ashore in the forenoon. News was not received till the afternoon. Owing to this and to the fact that the gale is still raging, the port will not be ablo to send assistance before the morning, when a tug leaves for the scene.
