TO THE BURGESSES OF BOROUGH OF GISBORNE. and Gentlemen, — In soliciting your suffrages at the 'forthcoming Election, permit me to say that, if elected, my aims will be to see that: , The health, and to that end the cleanliness, of the Borough shall receive strict attention. That all works undertaiien shall be as far as possible of a permanent naturß. That all portions of the Borough shall have fair consideration in matters of public expenditure. . . That the management of Municipal affairs be conducted with Efficiency and Economy. . Larger questions will require consideration, and will need careful handling. I am committed to a Drainage and Water Scheme, and was one of the first to urge upon the Council the employment of the best professional advice obtainable, in order that complete and efficient service may be obtained. TO THE BOROUGH ELECTORS. and Gentlemen,— In soliciting your votes at the forthcoming Election, it is needless for me to make any profuse promises. I can only remind the burgesses of my six years’ service as a Councillor, and pledge myself that, if elected, I shall endeavor to be as attentive to the requirements of the Borough in the future as I have been in the past, favoring works of a progressive nature, consistent with economy, and making it my business to see that the monoy expended is fairly distributed in all parts of the Borough. As I am unable to be present on Polling Day, and it is not my intention to tout for a single vote, I leave myself confidently in your hands, feeling sure that my old friends will not forget me. AND GENTLEMEN, — I respectfully request your support and votes at the forthcoming Election, and in doing so would briefly state that I am in favor of a Progressive Policy. The several matters of importance shortly to come before the Council for consideration will require careful attention in order that the progress of the town may not be retarded; and, to my mind, the Drainage and Water Supply are first in importance, and an absolute necessity. I have also been forcibly impressed with the old-fashioned ideas existing in Gisborne with reference to street cleaning and watering and, if elected, should endeavor to have more modern and expeditious appliances introduced for this purpose. lam of opinion that a Bridge is necessary at the upper end of the town to connect with North Gisborne, and in sanitary matters, street lighting, recreation grounds, etc., Gisborne is lamentably behind towns of lesser importance. In conclusion, allow me to state I am not soliciting your votes for any personal motive, my whole desire being to see the town progress more rapidly than in the past. Yours faithfully, THOS. MORRISON. TO THE BOROUGH ELECTORS. HALLOW BURGESSES,— In again soliciting your suffrages I do so with a full knowledge of the grave responsibility that rests upon me if elected. The health of the people should be the first care of every burgess, and to this end we must use every reasonable effort to secure a supply of good water and efficient drainage, but at the same time we must be careful lest in endeavoring to eater for posterity we cripple the present generation. A good footpath to each man’s door, and a light in every dark corner, so as to make transit easy, are urgent requirements. A judicious expenditure in reproductive and necessary works, and a fair distribution of the Borough Fund, must be our constant aim, and if while attending to these material things we do not allow the utility of beauty to be overlooked, and strive to make our town comfortable for our own people and attractive to visitors, Gisborne will the more rapidly rise to that important position whioh it is bound to occupy.
