ROBBERY AT WAIHI.
Paeroa, Friday.
For some time past, numerous petty thefts have been committed in different parts of Ohinemuri, but the culprits generally do their work so clean that the police are not given much of a clue to work oil. One of the most daring and sensational robberies that has occurred for some time, however, is reported here from Waihi, the residence and shop of Mr J. Newdiek, baker, having been on Sunday night last entered, and over £9O in notes and silver taken. According to particulars given, it appears that the thief'boldly entered the bedroom of Mr Newdiek and took from the latter’s trouser’s pocket the keys of the safe, which was afterwards opened and £9O taken. The cash was that received during the latter end of the week, and was ready for being sent in to the Bank of New Zealand at Paeroa. Several cheques were left untouched, the perpetrators of the robbery being wise enough to leave these alone. It would seem us if the' porson or persons concerned ltuey/ his or their iviy about the premiser, and must have tho work very quietly and cleverly not to hav* araUsed ttl V ° f household.
