A centenarian, who was born on board an English man-of-war, on April 12th, 1801, celebrated hundredth birthday at South Dunedin last week. The house was tastefully decorated with Union J aelcs. Poor old China's gone to pieces, Of her vast possessions reft, Day by day her power decreases, Soon there’ll be but little left. She’ll no longer be a nation, But for ever be obscure; Coughs and colds have no foundation, Dosed with Woods’ Geeat PurrEioiiNT Cube.

TO THE BOROUGH ELECTORS. JJIELLOW BURGESSES,— In again soliciting your suffrages I do so with a full knowledge of the grave responsibility that rests upon me if elected. The health of the people should be the first care of every burgess, and to this end we must use every reasonable effort to secure a supply of good water and efficient drainage, but at the same time we must be careful lest in endeavoring to cater for posterity we cripple the present generation. A good footpath to each man’s door, and a light in every dark corner, so as to make transit easy, are urgent requirements. A judicious expenditure in reproductive and necessary works, and a fair distribution of the Borough Fund, must be our constant aim, and if while attending to these material things we do not allow tho utility of beauty to be overlooked, and strive to make our town comfortable for our own people and attractive to visitors, Gisborne will the more rapidly rise to that important position which it is bound to occupy. Yours faithfully, R. N. JONES. WAIMATA ROAD BOARD. GENERAL MEETING.
