The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. GISBORNE, APRIL 19, 1901. A GENEROUS MILLIONAIRE.

Ouu mail nows this morning gives more pleasant reading than is often the case in regard to millionaires. Usually they are grab-alls of the worst kind. But Carnegie ) though a persistent worker for wealth, is determined to do good with his money while he is alive, and not leave it to spendthrift relatives to deal with. His retirement from business has been marked by some munificent gifts, and he has declared that he intends to dispose of his entire fortune before he dies. He holds the laudable belief that an old man should not struggle to make more, but rather to make good use of what he has already acquired, and this wise saying can be the better appreciated for the reason that Mr Carnegie is giving practical effect to the opinions that he holds. May he have long life, and good health for many years to come.
