FREE PASSES.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. The Education Board has passed a resolution that a strong appeal bo made to Ministers to grant free passes to all children attending the secondary department of the district high schools. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
At the Police Court Henry Ilalton was charged with attempting to commit suicide. A slight wound had been inflicted on his throat with a table knife. Mr Carew, S.M., said that accused’s mind was probably affected by his epileptic condition. It would be cruel to sentence Him to a long term, but he had no power to call upon him to find sureties. He sentenced him to twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. The Referees’ Association passed a resolution to-night that a conference of referees should be held in Wellington as early as possible. THE GOVERNOR,
His Excellency the Governor arrived this evening, and will confer with the Mayor to-morrow concerning tho reception of the Corn walls, CHEAP FARES. It appears that if children are brought m from the country districts for tho demonstration, tho maximum charge from North Otago will be Is 81. :
