BOILER EXPLOSION.
MUCH LOSS OF LIFE—A BUILDING WRECKED. TERRIBLE SUFFERINGS OF GIRLS. [By Telegraph.] (Per Mail Steamer at Auckland.) In Chicago, on March 11th, a boiler in a foundry exploded, wrecking a large building, and burying in tho ruins a dozen people, mostly employees of a laundry. At least twonty-five others were seriously injured. cause of the explosion can never be exactly known, as the ongineer perished. The gas used in the engine was manufactured on the premises, and largo quantities of gasoline were used. It is presumed this caused the trouble in some way.
The sufferings of tho injured girls were terrible, some of them being hurled from the upper storey window by the force of the explosion, and somo being pinioned in the debris and burned.
