Autumn Handicap.—Benzoin 1, Clytie 2, Cameo 3. AVon easily by a dozen lengths.
NELSON RACES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Richmond, last night. The Nelson Jockey Club’s races commenced to-day in showery, threatening weather. The attendance, consequently, was poor, although there was a larger number of visitors than usual. Following are the results : Hurdles.—Right Metal 1, Rhoderick Dhu 2. Only, the two started. Won easily. Time 2.28, divs. £1 7s and 12s. Harness Trot. —Honduras 1, Warrigal 2, Blackpool 3. All started. Won easily. Time 6.20, divs. £1 13s and 16s. District Hack Race.-—lxia 1, First Light 2, Dialogue 3. No others started. A good race, won by rather more than a length. Time 1.19 2-5, divs. £3 18s and £1 16s.
Scurry Hack. —Girling 1, Kaloo 2, Miss Gordon 3. Bulrush also started, but hung at the post, and was out of the race from tlie start. AVon by a short length. Time 1.10, divs. £2 6s and £l9s. After the race the stewards held an enquiry. Into the running of Kaloo, whom many thought should have won. The result was that the rider, Fowler, was reprimanded. Cup.—Ruamahunga and Volley ran a dead-beat, Sanfoin being' third, All started. Time 2T4-J-. It was a good race with an exciting finish. Ruamahunga was lying in a handy position at the rear of the field, till reaching the straight, i when he came up and got on terms with Volley just on the post. Sanfoin, who carried 81b overweight, was about a length and a half behind. Divs.: Ruamahunga, £2 18s and £1 16s; Volley, £1 10s and 13s. Grandstand.—Reikura 1, Seabreeze 2, Osborne 3. The following acceptances have been received for Saturday’s racing, first day : Maiden Plato Handicap, 6 furlongs.
An Auckland agent, acting or. behalf of a Sydney client, has purchased DrumMajor from Messrs lv. and R. Duder, and the son of Cuirassier will be shipped to Australia by next week’s steamer. The price paid for the horse, it is understood, is 150 guineas. Drum-Major has been purchased with a view to his being used as a sire.
