Mr Harding returned to Gisborno yesterday from Auckland. We regret to learn that Mr W. Judd, of Matawli ero, is seriously ill. Mr W. Adair left for Wellington last night. Mr J. E. Seluitz, representing Messrs L. Schatz and Co., of Wellington, arrived by the To Anau this morning. Mr 11. D. Lovonsolm, of Wellington, was a passongor from the South by tho To Anau this morning. Mr J. Marshall, representative of tho Dunedin linn of Schoullar and Co., arrived to-day by tho To Anau. Mr and Miss Loisol left last night for Melbourne, with the intention of doing » the round trip. Mr and Mrs Cottrell, of Tokomaru, returned to Gisborno yosterday from Auckland.

Mr Vickorman, of the Public Works Department, is to visit Gisborne in a few weeks’ time. Mr 11. Burns, travelling representative of the Gisborne Times, is at present in Wairoa. Trooper Charles Ferris left for 'tho South last night, being a representative of Gisborne at the Melbourne Federal display.

Mr Jardino, of Ormond, leaves Napier to-day for tho South, where ho takes tho Monowai for Melbourne, and then Homo to England. The many Gisborne friends of Mr Sainsbury will bo deeply grieved to hear of his sad fate on tho trip homo by tho Mouowai. Aston, bandmaster, and Mr McKillop, conductor, of tho Whataupoko Band, arc to go to Rotorua in Juno, in company with the Band, to take part in the musical welcome to tho Duke and Duchess of Cornwall. . Captain Post, of tho Tutanokai, is likely to be chosen as pilot on tho Ophir while she is in New Zealand waters. Mr Frank Hyarns, the well-known jeweller of Dunedin and London, is submitting designs to tho Government for the casket which is to contain tho address of welcome to the Duke of Cornwall, to be presented on his landing at Auckland. ;It is stated that Mr T. Fitzgerald, of circus fame, endeavoured to purchase the native carved wliare at Table Land’s, Martinborough, from Tamahau Mahupulca. Although it is believed that £4OOO was offered for it, Tamahau refused to soil.

Mr Patrick Duncan, who has boon appointed Controller of the Treasury in the colonics of Transvaal and Orange River, is a nephew of Mr David Milne, of Puia, Auckland.Mr W. Douglas Lysnar loaves to-day on a visit to tho suggested water supply sources. Ho will be accompanied by a photographer. Mr and Mrs Jamos Tait, who have been spending their honeymoon in Gisborne and the North, left for Mohaka via Napier by tho steamer Fanny last evening. The v furniture and effects for the new household wore purchased at Gisborne, and also-, shipped by tho Fanny. Mr J. Hussey, clerk in the Customs Ofhce, has received word that he is to bo transferred to Napier. This will be a, blow to cricketing circles, and the business people generally will regret that Mr Hussey is leaving Gisborne, though' all will heartily join in extending him good wisnes and congratulations on his promotion.

Captain Romeril, formerly of tho Kahu and now of the Toroa, has (says the Dunedin Star) decided to retire from the sea. Captain Botncril was in charge of the Kahu for many years, and relinquished command of that vessel to bring the Toroa from the Old Country to this " colony. A change has taken place in the deck officers of the Zealandia. Besides Mr E. . 13. Atwood, as chief officer, the position of second is being filled by Mr W. J. Bowenoingleton, who was previously third, Mr Frank Joliffe, late of tho s.s. Mambare, of the island service, now taking up the duties of third officer; the late second... officer, Mr McDiarmid, rejoining his old ship the Tambo. F- Entwistle, late chief officer of the Westralia, has been appointed to the command of the s.s. Tambo. Mr R. H. late second officer, will succeed Mr Entw’istlc on the Westralia, Mr W. B. Wilkinson, R.N.R., having been appointed to Mr Tolly.’s late position. Mr J. Whit- ’ field has resumed his position as chief engineer of the Westralia.
