CENSUS RETURNS.
[By Telegraph— Press Association.] Thames, last night; Tho population of the Thames borough is 3993, against 4225 in 1896, a decrease of *232. A largo number of Austrians recently arrived in the district gum digging, but they are included in the country returns. MINING. The amalgamation of the Moanatairi, May Queen, Uauraki, and ThamesHauraki properties is being discussed by the London Boards. No decision has yet been arrived at. The three combined possess a huge pumping plant which cost £150,000y a large battery, and extensive property.
