POLITICS IN AUSTRALIA.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, April 13.

The Argus says Mr Fegan’s appointment has been received in all quarters with a deep sense of disappointment. It was supposed that leading permanent positions under the Commonwealth would be given to men who could be welcomed by all. Mr Fegan is an absolutely untried man in official life, and it is evident his is a case of favor, and not of merit. He has come first. Nothing could be more unfortunate. The Federal-Minis-ters should hold the belief that in all personal matters they will set Australia an illustrious example. The Federal Cabinet has decided that members of the Senate shall be officially styled Senators, and members of the House shall add M.P. to their names.

The matter of the appointment of Mr Fegan stauds over till the general question of appointments is dealt with. Mr Fraser has been declared elected for the

Senate. The total number of invitations issued by the Government for the opening of the Federal Parliament is' 9400, including 400 for New Zealand. With the exception of a few specially honored personages, all the guests will pay their own travelling and hotel expenses. Sydney, April 13. Mr See, in a speech at the turning of the first sod of the Grafton-Casino railway, said he intended to carry out the main lines of the Lyne Government policy.
