A JUDGE’S DECISION. (Special to Times.) Auckland, Saturday night. The topic of conversation in sporting circles this evening has been in reference to the decision of the judge, Mr Hutchison, in the Grandstand Handicap’at the Auckland races to-day. The rider ofjjZealous (Scats, of Gisborne) claims that won the race by three-quarters of a length. Zealous was supposed to have gained second place from a public point of view, and The Needle next, whereas the judge reversed it, and placed The Needle first, Zealous second, Rosella third. It is a great pity indeed that Mr Hutchison dwelt so long in arriving at his decision as to which horse won, and one is not surprised at the manner the public behaved on this occasion. It may be mentioned that Rosella, whom I am of opinion passed the post first, was paying X 7 on the totalisator.
