Mr James Macfarlano, County Chairman, returned from Auckland by the s.s. Maori. J

On Saturday Mr J. Townloy was reelected Mayor of Gisborne for the twelfth year in succession. Mr E. P. Joyco returned from Auckland yesterday. Mr R. N. Jones, who has been on a visit to the northern springs, returned to Gisborne yesterday. Mr W. L. File was to have been nominated for the Borough Council on Satur day, but the paper was received too late.

Mr W. J. P. Gaudin, one of the proprietors of the Times, is at present in Wellington, and returns to Gisborne on Thursday morning. liie Rev. Canon Fox has been laid up with influenza, and was unable so mako his intended trip to the Waimata yesterday.

Mr Samuel Morrison is gazetted as postmaster and telephonist at Waeronga-o-kuri.

Complete specifications have licon accepted from Mr Abraham Skillicorn, of Gisborne, for a patent for an improved wool-press.

Mr Brown, formerly post-master at Gisborne, and now of Onehunga, returned to Auckland by steamer on Saturday, •after satisfying himself as to the value bf properties which ho holds in this district. Mr D. Lamb,•Government -Auditor, arrived on Saturday morning to exainino the accounts of the Jocal bodies of the district. He made a start with the Harbor Board papers that morning. Later on he goes up the coast as far as Awanui.

The following nominations have been received for the Napier Borough Council • Messrs H. P. Cohen, W. Plowman, R. Bristy, J. P. Thomson, T. C. Dawson, M. Lascelles, J. D. Briaseo, J. Spence, W. J. McGrath, F. G. Smith, and J. V. Brovyn. • Mr C. V. Houghton, the Auckland manager for the New Zealand Shipping Company,’was a passenger yesterday by the s.s.. Moura to join the Whakatano at Wellington for London. Mr Houghton, who was accompanied by his son, will be absent from Auckland for about six months. ' * - Captain Winter has received the following telegram “ Taare Wherehi is accepted for Melbourne Contingent; lot him come to Wellington at once.
