This witness also deposes to being asked by Sirs Smith wliat sort of poison strychnine was, whether it was solid or liquid, and what were its effects.
The witness will also stato that after the day when Conway was allegod to liavo been drugged at Sumner, Mrs Smith said she had given strychnine to a dog at Sumuer, and the animal had died immediately, amusing her very much by its convulsion struggles. The witness will further give evidence as to having been told by Mrs Smith that she had some pretty nuggets of gold which she would show to the witness, and which had been obtained from a claim near Dunedin.
