Auckland, last night. The Auckland builders have resolved by a large majority to take the dispute with their employees to the Arbitration Court. They received a deputation from bricklayers’ laborers, and agreed to reduce the hours to 4-4 a week, and to increase the pay to a shilling an hou.r. Ethel Stanley, aged 18, left her parents’ residence at Te Aroha on Good Friday evening in a light muslin dress and house shoes, and has not returned. Search parties are out. There is no clue as to her whereabouts.
Palmerston North, last night. The draughts tournament concluded last night, Gardiner (Gore) securing the championship with a score of 18A, being half a point ahead of Brodie, the ex-championship, and Mulvey. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Draughts Association Mr AV. Robinson, of Christchurch, was elected President. Vice-Presidents were appointed in various parts of the colony. The visitors wore entertained at a banquet by the local Club last evening. AVellington, last night.
Two Angora goats purchased by the Agricultural Department from the late Sir Samuel Wilson’s estate in Victoria are now on Soames Island, Wellington Harbor, and others are being imported from South Australia. The Government intend breeding the goals on a limited scale.
The Wellington Opera House Company declares a dividend of 7 per cent.
The Teachers’ Salaries Commission hold their first sitting at Wellington on the 22nd inst.
By the Tarawera on Saturday four witnesses in the Conway case will leave for Sydney, viz., Conway’s brother from Dunedin, E. Smith, chemist, and Misses Hesketh and Lancaster, all of Christchurch.
The Midland Railway Commission sat this morning and took the evidence of David Wallace, who was traffic manager of the Midland Company, and is now goods agent on the Government line at Dunedin,

Mr J. A. Law, of the firm of Henderson, Law, and Co., is dead. Mr Chapman is announced as a candidate for the City Mayoralty.
