AUCKLAND RACES.
(Special to Times.) Auckland, last night. Tho second day’s racing of the A.It.C. autumn meeting was commenced to-day, a good number of Gisßornitcs being present. Among the Gisborne visitors present yesterday, I omitted to mention Mr A. F. Kennedy. Business opened with the Stewards’ Handicap, in which ten horses ran. Firefly and St. Peter were favorites, but while both ran well, Zealous, who pursued a straightcr course than on the first day, when she won the Eden Handicap, galloped in rare style, winning cleverly from St. Peter. Defender and Firefly were prominent right to the end of the race. Zealous returned her supporters the nice dividend of .£lO. Then came the Ellerslio Handicap, in which Menura was favorite. Mr Ormond’s filly, however, did not get a clear run till half-way down the straight, and Hcspcr, who got into position early, won with a little to spare. The Century Stakes furnished a surprise. Seahorse, the favorite, after racing in the front with Beddington to a quarter of a mile from homo, suddenly stopped, beaten, and finished last. The Autumn Hurdle race was a most interesting contest. The winner, Cannongatc, was never headed. Voltigour, Kaimate, and Tim in turn tried hard to wrest tho lead from him. Cavalierio to tho turn into tho straight ran much better than on tho opening day, but then, striking a hprdle, lost ground. In tho Flying Handicap, Rosella, who was made favorite, got knocked about and bruised. Solo proved tho winner. Pipiwharauroa, winner of tho Pony event, and a former Gisborne horse, returned to her investors tho nice dividend of .£lB. The favorite, Blue Paul, ran last. Solo just beat St. Olga by half a head for first place in tho Shorts’ Handicap. Tho last race of the day, the Handicap, was an interesting one. The Gisborne horse Materoa ran a good race, though she only managed to gain third place. She ran a much better race than what she had dono on the previous day. The GLsborneites present did not go back on tho huia colors, however. Ilohoro proved the winner, with Ideal next. The Gisborno-owned horse En Hakkoro was badly hurt in the Tradesman’s Plate Handicap run at Ellerslic yesterday. En Hakkoro is to remain in ' Auckland for some time.
A.It.C. AUTUMN MEETING. SECOND DAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, last night. Tho weather was lino, and the attendance good. A sum of .£9275 passed through the totalisator for the day. Seahorse was quite a pronounced favorite for the principal event, the Century Stakes, but did not flatter his admirers when it came to business. Tho race fell to tho Taranaki-owned Battlcaxe, who stripped very fit and well, and snatched a victory from Boreas in tho last few strides. Stewards’ Handicap, of lOOsovs ; ono mile.

On his way to the opening meet of the hunting fraternity, our reporter dropped across Mick Maher and his employers, Currie and Hogan. It appears that Mick was about to visit Auckland, as Mr Currie has not the good fortuno to havo a horse in training for the next July meeting. It is to be hoped that Mick will have tho good luck to drop into a winning stable, as he is an exceedingly capable trainer, and as a horseman over country or
hurdles ho is simply perfect. The Poverty Bay Jockey Club presented Mick with a gift for exemplary conduct, and his employers, for whom he has trained and ridden for the last ten years, “ swear by Mick.”
