The Sunday Times says that perhaps the most interesting race yesterday was the Autumn Stakes, when Advance scored his first win in Australia. The race was fast, and the New Zealand horse showed special brilliancy. At last night’s reading of the card for Sydney Cup, considerable business was done. Wakeful was backed for 1200 at 3 to 1, and left off at 5 to 2 offered. A couple of hundred were taken about La Carabine at fourteens. Severity was not in demand, but , Clean Sweep was in strong order. Over three thousand was wagered at seven to one ; then the price shortened a point. Gunga Din was backed to win three thousand at tens, and a point shorter. San Fran was in request at tens to the extent of three thousand, leaving off at eights. Rabato was backed for LSOOO at 100 to 6. .
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received April 7, 12.24 p.m.) Sydney, April 7. Advance’s victory was a most popular one. The cheering commenced as ho passed the post, and was renewed when ae returned, to the scale. It was taken up again when tho rider (Jenkins) weighed in. There was not the semblance of a fluke about the win. The race was run to suit La Carabine; who obtained considerable advantage from a friendly opening made for her at the homo turn.
Ohio has been backed for the Cup to win about L6OOO at 100 to 3.
