EXCURSION TRAIN DERAILED.
LINE BLOCKED FOR HOURS. INJURIES TO PASSENGERS. Press Association —Copyright. Christchurch, last night. The weather for the holiday was glorious till about four o’clock in tlio afternoon, when a squall, with heavy rain, came up from the south-west. Large crowds of people went to the seaside. The train returning from Sumner at about six o’clock, laden with excursionists, was derailed at the points at Hcathcotc Bridge, completely blocking the line for several hours. Some sensational reports reached town about serious injuries to passengers, but these proved unfounded for the most part. The most serious case is that of Mrs Laing, a resident of Linwood, who was sitting on the steps leading to the top of the car, and who has received internal injuries, the extent of which is not yet known. Her son had his hand crusliod, and her daughter received injuries in her side. A man had his foot injured, and a boy had his hand crushed.
