Paris, Feb. 28. Charles He Rouvel, the well-known novelist, has been granted an absolute divorce on the ground that his wife refused to quit smoking. “You must be tolerant,” said the Judge before whom the suit was brought. Many society ladies smoke cigarettes noiy-a-. days,” “ But my wife smokes something worse than cigarettes,” said De Douyel ruefully.
“ Cigars ? ” queried the Judge, “ A pipe, Your Honor,” said the novelist ; “ a vicious, bulldog brier pipe.” >i Divorce granted,” said the Court without further comment. The revelation has caused widespread wonderment, as Mine. De Rouvel is an otherwise refined matron of good social standing.
