Mr W. Douglas Lysnar is at present on a visit to Wellington. Mr J. Whinray, the new member of the Harbor Board, took his seat at the Board .yesterday. Captain Tucker also resumed liis position as a member.

Mr H. Hill, 8.A., Inspector of Schools, is at present examining and inspecting the schools between Gisborne and Wairoa.

Mr E. H. Brookes, a well-known Auckland bowler, who represents the firm of Messrs Hancock and. Co., is aV present visiting this district. : ' ”»’ Owing to their recent bereavement, Mrs and Misses Seymour, of Whangara, have postponed their visit to England, and are likely to remain in Gisborne for the winter.

Mr Lysnar has offered to present the East. Coast Mounted Rifles with four silver challenge brooches for competition among the members. Mr S. S. Springall has been appointed to carry on the surveying work of the Gis-borne-Karaka line in place of Mr J. S. Stewart. - Mr Springall will for the present be engaged locating the line from the eleven mile peg to the Waipaoa River, upon which work he starts to-day. He also has the land plans for the ground taken for railway purposes to make out.
