APATHETIC RATEPAYERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, last night. A poll of ratepayers was taken to-day on the proposal of the City Council to lease the recently [reelaimed land in Freeman’s Bay from the Harbor Board for a public Park, and to borrow LBOOO to lay out the ground. The result was that out of a roll of 4600 ratepayers undor nine hundred voted, 507 being for the proposal, and 319 against. A bare majority carries tiie poll. BISHOP WILSON. The Bishop of Melanesia sailed for the Islands on the mission ship Southern Cross to-day. SHIPPING. Arrived at Kaipara: The Royal Tar, barque, from Melbourne.
