A TIME OF FEAR,

The British-India "steamer Jumna has arrived from Queensland ports. After an alarming fire which was discovered in the bunkers on the 9th, the vessel put into Algiers and removed 300 tons of coal. She sailed again, and on the Monday following the fire re-appeared in the main hold, and raged for ten hours. It spread seriously, the engine-room becoming almost untenable.
The boats were provisioned and made ready[for lowering. The crew and passengers, under the leadership of tho chief and third officers and purser, jettisoned many tons of cargo with great difficulty, and finally subdued the fire.
A steamer which came in sight remained alongside the Jumna all night. The cargo suffered by the water poured in. After calling at Plymouth on Tuesday, the Jumna proceeded to London,
