HUMANE SOCIETY’S AWARDS.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF BRAVE DEEDS. By Telegraph—Pres3 Association. Christchurch, last night. At a meeting of the Court of Directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand to-day, siver medals were awarded : To William Hammond, for rescuing Lilian Burns from drowning in Rangitikei River on October Ist, 1900 ; to Patrick Nolan, for rescuing three men from drowning at Bruce Bay on March 14th, 1900 ; to W. J. Millen, for rescuing Bessie Scott from drowning at Wanganui on Jctober 3rd, 1900. Bronze medals were awarded to : Mamae Rangitahua and Ita Pakeha, two Maori girls, for rescuing Rikiranga Osborne from drowning at Wanganui on November 26th, 1900. George Dunn and Patrick McCafferty wore granted first-class certificates for rescuing Richard Robertson from an exploding blast at Waiowha on December 21st, 1899. H. C. Carlyle was granted a certificate for rescuing Frank Haydon from being run over at Christchurch on November 15th, 1900. A momoriam cer-
tificate was directed to be sent to the next of kin of A. K. W. AVatts, who was drowned at AVanganui on October 3rd, 1900, in an attempt to rescue Bessie Scott from drowning. Letters of commendation were directed to bo sent to: A. F. Field, for rescuing AV. Jacob from drowning at AVellington on December 30 ; to AVilliam Harper and Duncan Johnston, for attempting to rescue M. Laurenson from drowning at Parsons Rocks, Charleston, on July 12, 1900 ; to Cecil Dixon, for rescuing H. Reardon from drowning at Masterton on October 19, 1900; James Knowles, for rescuing Mary Myhill from drowning at Napier on January 2; AV. Ollivicr and J. E. Lund, for rescuing T. Barlow from drowning at Dovonport on November 8, 1900; AV. C. L. Bruco, for rescuing Katie Collins from drowning at Lyttelton on January 5, 1901; Rupert Rich, for rescuing a boy from drowning at Lyttelton on December 22, 1900.
