The insurance of £S77O on the Row Zealand Express Company’s premises in New Zealand .Company is re-insured thus :—United, National, and Guardian, £IOQ each ; Victoria, £750 ; Northern, £SOO. The stored furniture which was destroyed was owned by about 85 different persons. Some was insured by the owners.
Twelve Maori Councils, under the Act of last session, haye been elected. Several elections have yet to be held. The nomination of candidates for the Councils under the Maori Lands Administration Act has been fixed for April 26, and the elections for May 17. A movement is gaining ground in ■Wanganui to commemorate the memory of the late Queen by the erection of a new ward in the hospital, to be called the “ Queen Victoria Ward.” It is proposed to raise by public subscription the sum of £IOOO, which will be supplemented by a Government subsidy of an equal amount,
