WELLINGTON NEWS.

SLIME AT NELSON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. A report on the slime which recently 7 caused considerable mortality among the fish in the Nelson district has been made to the Minister of Marine by Sir James Hector. A sample was taken after the mortality had ceased, but still it was thought it was only a marine sediment. The results throw very little light on the cause of the mortality. EASTER ENCAMPMENT. The Commandant of the Forces has been in communication with the officers commanding the volunteer districts in various parts of the colony, with regard to holding Easter encampments, and he will probably make a recommendation to the Minister for Defence to-morrow. INEBRIATES’ HOME. Reports on the establishment of an Inebriates’ Home have been sent to the Government by the officials of the hospitals and charitable aid department, and the matter has been uudor consideration of the Cabinet for some time past. The reports are of a favourable nature, and the report has been referred to the Minister in charge of hospitals and charitable aid to take action in the matter. THE OFFICE BOY.

There is considerable complaint in the City by mercantile and other firms as to the ' difficulty of securing boys for clerical work. A number of school teachers who have been interviewed on the subject attribute this to the fact that it is one of the results of so many young men leaving the colony for South Africa, that a greater number of boys are now being sent to the secondary schools, and that a greater number of parents now send their children to learn trades than was formerly the case.
