POLO MATCH.

POVERTY BAY v. MANGAHEIA,

A match between the abovo clubs was played at the Mangaheia polo ground on Saturday afternoon, after tho hunt had taken placo. The teams wore : Poverty Bay: G. Bradley, captain, back; Harley Evans, 3; R. Shcrratt, 2; T. Sherratt, 1.

Mangaheia team: J. R. Murphy, captain, back; G. Reynolds, 3 ; R. Reynolds, 2 ; M. R. Murphy, 1. The game was a very fast one, and a very close contest took place. The game resulted in n victory for the Mangatieia team by 5 goals to 4. The visitors had all the best "of the play up to the last spell, when the splendid condition of the ponies of the Mangaheia team helped to turn tho tables, with tho result that the home team had a victory, which was well deserved, from the dashing way in which they played an uphill game. For the winners, J. R. Murphy, at back, proved a very reliable player, and G. Reynolds, as No. 3, did special service, his hitting being most effective, while M. Murphy and R. Reynolds also did good service. For the visitors, G. Bradley, as back, played in good form, and staved off many a dangerous rush. Harley Evans played brilliantly throughout, and was responsible for most of the scoring ; Thoonlcy Sherratt played in dashing style as No. 1, and Randall Sherratt played a hard and consistent game.

Mr 0. Evans acted as referee, Mr Cyril White as official scorer, and Mr J. B. Morris as timekeeper, and everything passed off satisfactorily. A match takes places this morning, at Mangaheia, between teams representing Mahia and Mangaheia. On their way home the Mahia teams are to play a match against Poverty Bay. The match takes place at Wairaikaia next Thursday afternoon, at 2.80.
