It is proposed that if there is no Easter encampment in Wellington, all volunteers shall havo field work during the April holidays. This will probably consist of a march through Wairarapa to Mastorton. QUEEN’S STATUE. Tho total subscribed to date to the Queen’s Statue Fund, for which £3OOO is required, is £1360. DIVORCE COURT. In the Divorce Court decision was reserved in the case Frances Jano Mitchell, petitioner, for a divorce from William Mitchell, cabinetmaker, on the ground of desertion. MANAWATU COMPANY. The directors of the Manawatu Railway Company will recommend a dividend of six per cent. RETURNING SOLDIERS. Amongst the passengers from Sydney by the 'Monowai are Surgeon-Captain Deßenzenzi, and the following returning troopers, all of whom came to New South Wales last week by the Ranee : —A. E. Loch, Waimate; E. G. Hall Kerrow, Oamaru ; J. H. Taylor, Pctone ; J. Caldwell, Wanganui; H. M. Bodding, Masterton ; D. S. Bruce, Tokomaru, Poverty Bay ; 0. H. Tully, Grey town North. J. G. Cooper, Wellington Section of tho Fifth Contingent; L. C. Limmer, Auckland Section of the Fifth Contingent; Francis R. Hall, Wellington Section of tho Fifth Contingent; W. C. Gosling, Canterbury Section of the Fifth Contingent; V. E. Ford, Watao, Westland; F. Wickers, Wellington; West Coast and Nelson Sections Fifth Contingent, Braddocs, Adams, and Dobbin. ELECTRIC TRAMWAYS.
Tho Tramways Committee of the City Council to-night reported to the Council in favor of taking a poll of ratepayers for a loan of .£225,000 as an instalment on the system of electric tramways. ' The scheme involves the equipment of a double track between Newtown and Thorndon, the gauge to be 4ft 85-in, with extensions to Island Bay, Oriental Bay, the Botanical Gardens, and upper Willisstreet. A power generating station will also have to be erected. The committee’s report was adopted by the Council after a long debate.
THE YORKS. Mr Dunne, Superintendent of Tourist Resorts, returned from the North tonight. He had a number of interviews with His Excellency the Governor regarding the tour of the Yorks. Amongst the arrangements made by Mr Dunne was to secure the Grand Hotel, Auckland, and the Grand Hotel, Rotorua, for the exclusive use of Royal party.
HEALTH OF TROOPERS. The Government have received advice that 2575 Sergt. Barker, 1333 Corporal Smith, and 2566 Sergt. Strong,-who have been ill, have recovered and are with their regiments.
