The match will be played in the Victoria Domain. At the Police Court yesterday Joseph Geddis was fined £5 and costs for being drunk while in charge of a horse. His wife paid the fine. Our readers are reminded of St. Patrick’s social to-morrow evening. Elaborate preparations have been made, and the function promises to be a great success. Mr E. P. Joyce received a telegram from Mr Carroll yesterday that Trooper Trotter had been given a commission in the Seventh Contingent. Mr Mestayer, who is to fidvise as to the Gisborne water and drainage scheme, arrives from Wellington this morning. A special meeting of the Council is convened for 10 this morning to confer with Mr Mesteyer. The visiters at the Geyser Hotel, Rotorua, were alarmed by an outbreak of fire on Monday night. The flames were extinguished without serious damage. This was the third incipient fire recently. Incendiarism is suspected, The special meeting of the Harbor Board called for yesterday lapsed for want of a quorum, those who attended being Messrs Sievwright, Hepburn, and Macfarlane. The special business was to have considered what roll should be used for the forthcoming election. Another change in the proprietorship of one of the local hotels took place yesterday, Mr F. Stevenson, the popular landlord of the Royal Hotel, having sold his interest to Mr J. R. Quinn, of Auckland. The new proprietor of this favorite hotel is sure to meet with a continuance of the support accorded it in the past. At a meeting of the Gisborne Rifles, officers were elected to fill vacancies which had occurred in the corps through the resignation of Color-Sergeant Guise and Corporal Younghusband. Sergeant H. Warren was elected to the color-sergeant’s position, and Privates Franklin and Wakelin were elected to the position of corporals, Corporal Skipworth being elected sergeant in place of Sergeant Warren. The Wellington Free Lance states :
