BIG FIRE.

DESTRUCTION AT COROMANDEL,

Auckland, last night. A serious fire broke out early this morning at Coromandel. The following places wore destroyed : ltondall, draper ; Richards, hairdresser; Hackett, chemist ; Rostgard, draper; and Massick, jeweller. Williams’ shop on the opposite side of the road, was damaged. The spread of the fire was cheeked by the Fire Brigade. A total of seven shops and dwellings were destroyed. The lire originated at Richards’, hairdresser, and quickly spread on both siilos of the street. A large amount of stock and furniture was saved from Rondell’s, Tiaekett’s, and Massick’s, hut the stock in the other places was totally destroyed. lvostgard Bros, arc heavy losers. llackctt, chemist, had a narrow escape, being overcome by an escape of gas, and was carried out of the building just in time.

The insurances are : llendell’s .£750, in the Northern and Madgeburg, dwelling .£250 in the Victoria; Richards’, .£75 in the Victoria. £SO in the North Queensland; Rostgard Bros.’, £SOO in the Royal and £2OO in the Imperial; Mussick’s, £2OO in the Sun ; Williams’, £IOO in the North Queensland ; tlio others fire not obtainable.

Tho total loss is estimated at £SOOO.
