CRICKET.

ORMOND v. FRASERTOWN.

THE VISITORS DEFEATED,

Yesterday was an ideal day for cricket, and the match between Frasertown and Ormond was looked forward to with much interest. The match was played in Mr Julius Caesar’s paddock at Ormond, and that gentleman did all in his power to make the visitors feel at home. Frasertown won the toss, and elected to take the field. The home team sent in Kere and Barton, and both made a very good start. The former was the first to go under, being bowlecl by Jefferson by a good ball. Dods took his place, and after making four singles was bowled by Torr, who was in good form. Massey followed, but after making a brace was given his walking ticket by Jefferson. Shillabeer made one good hit for three, and after scoring a single was splendidly caught by Jefferson. Leggett made seven by patient cricket, and just when he was getting set was caught by Gardiner off Jefferson. Hood, Smith, Barton, and Caesar were responsible for one being added to the score, and a clever seven obtained by Foote, the notout man, closed the home team’s first innings for 52. Jefferson and Arundel, the pair selected to open the ball for Frasertown, did not last very long, Arundel being clean bowled by Shillabeer with a bowl that did not draw much. Torr followed, and great things were expected from him, as lie was reported to be one of the best men in the visiting team. After placing one safely for two he was caught by Foot. Stewart was run out without scoring, and was followed by Beckett, the skip of the team. After making one he was beaten by a straight one from Foot. Cosgrove came next, and after making six was caught off Foot. Hallet was clean bowled without scoring. F. Cooper made three, during which time lie was associated with Baty. The latter played the game of the innings, and gave an excellent display for the eleven he obtained, being unfortunately run out. A. Cooper was the not out man, having five to his credit when Gardiner was dismissed by Leggett, the innings closing for 36. Ormond in their second venture made 66, Barton, Foote, Kere, and Shillabeer being the double figure men. The last-named was in good fettle, and his score of 17 comprised some fine hits. F. Cooper and Gardiner were the only ones to make anything like a stand for Frazertown, scoring 20 between them. The game ended in favor of Ormond by 37 runs. In the bowling division Shillabeer, Massey, and Foote were the most prominent, whilst Torr and Jefferson did the most execution for Frasertown. A capital lunch was supplied by Mr J. Caesar, and Mrs Caesar also thoughtfully provided afternoon tea, which, needless to say, was much appreciated. The visitors and the local men were loud in their praises of the kindness of Mr and Mrs Caesar, who certainly did all in their power to promote the comfort of their guests, and make the outing an enjoyable one.
