THE NEW ZEALAND CRACK AGAIN
DEFEATED. THE JOCKEY BLAMED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, March 9. The attendance was largely curtailed to-day. The results were as follows : ALL AGED STAKES. Malster 1 Advance 2 Finland 3 Betting : 5 to 4 on Advanco, 3 to 1 Malster, 6 to 1 Finland. Advance was in the rear for the earlier part of the journey, but rounding the turn he began to come up. Malster took the lead entering the straight. Advance closed up, and the two fought out the run homo. Advance, however, was beaten before that distance, owing to indifferent riding, whilst Malster, gamely responding to the boy, won a good race by a length, Finland being four lengths further oil for third place. Time, 1.44.

Cicero 1 Vocalist 2 The Bride 3 Betting: 3to 1 Bride, 8 to 1 Cicero. Won by one and a half lengths, Vocalist being six lengths in front of The Bride. Time, 2.39:]. Steeplechase. Hayseed 1 Spieler ... ... ••• 2 Scaling Wax 3 Betting : 5 to 4 Hayseed, 5 to 1 Nero. Hayseed and Spieler went over the last fence together, the former winning by four lengths. There was a distance of nine lengths between second and third. Time, 6,51]. Loch Plato. Clean Sweep 1 La Carabine ... ... ... 2 Mariner 3 Scratched : Advanco, Paul Fry, and Malster. Betting: 7t040n La Carabine, 7 to 4 against Clean Sweep. Clean Sweep led Carabine by a lor.gth and a half along the back of the course. Approaching the straight the pair were close together, and came home stride for stride, Clean Sweep winning by half a head, and there being seven lengths between the second and third horses. Time 8.61.
Farewell Handicap. So Bong ... ... ... 1 Terlinga ... ... ... 2 Tasman ... ... ... 3 Betting: sto 1 Cyloss, Bto 1 So Long. Boreas, who kept a good position throughout, was second to Roscommon ontoring tho straight, but So Long caino with a rush and won by a length and a half. Time 1.45]
