Melbourne, March 8. Mr David Kay, aruonst other bequests, leaves £SOO to James Kaitt, Utago, and £SOOO to Melbourne University to found two Catherine Kay scholarship. The residue from certain property in Collins street is left to the Presbyterian Church, Victoria, to be devoted to medical mission work amongst the heathen. Amongst other plague precautions, renewed efforts are being made to destroy rats. It is positively stated that the suspected case at Fitzroy is not one of plague. Brisbane, March 8.
A man, named Beckman, lias been sentenced to death, at Townsville, for the murder of a companion, named Anderson, whose head he battered in.
