MOST EXCITING CONTESTS. Turkic was a large attendance again last evening to witness Hie continuation of the two local Rowing Clubs' trial fours. As in the previous races, the finishes were very close and exciting, So far, none of the races have been won by more than a quarter of a length, the majority of thorn having only been won on the post by a few feet, and the donors of the trophies for which the crews arc competing, Messrs A. F. Kennedy and AV. Good, have overy reason to feel satisfied at tho interest shown, tho racing being without doubt the best ever seen on the river. POVERTY BAY ROAVING CLUB. Here Taylor got on level terms with him, and in this way the crews raced to the footbridge. At the bathing-shed, Taylor had got a lead of half-a-length. AVcbb, spurting, got tho boats level again, and in this way they continued until within a couple "of lengths of the winning-post, where Taylor succeeded in getting his boat a few feet in front, and thus won a very exciting contest. Tho next heat was between .T. Alarton (str) D. AVest (str) F. Fox (8) 11. Taylor (o) A. AV. Kirk (2) J. Smith (2) J. Parker (bow) A. Pritchard (bow) Sawyer (cox) Roderick (cox) This proved the most exciting race of all. From a good start, AVest soon had a lead of quarter of a length, but Martin was soon on level terms with him, and a ding-dong race ensued to the footbridge, where Alartin had succeeded in getting a lead of quarter of a length, which lie maintained to the gasworks corner.

Wes; hero spurted, and his crew, rowing well, were soon on terms with their opponents, and a great race to the winning post resulted in Martin winning by barely a foot. This evening the final will bp rowed, and a good race is anticipated, when J. Martin's crew will meet C. Taylor’s. GISBORNE ROWING CLUB. Hansen (bowl K. Thomson (bow) The crews got well away, there being very little difference between them until Warren’s jetty was reached, where L. Shcrriff had obtained a slight lead, which he had increased to half a length at the footbridge. At Barton’s jetty A. Shcrriff got- within quarter of a length of the leaders, but despite the efforts of his crew, they were unable to get on terms with their opponents, who won by barely half a length.
