To-day was a very hot day, with the wind like a furnace. There was a decreased attendance. The following aio tho results: —

Hopeful Stakes. Dodona 1 Portree 2 Fighting Mac... 3 Betting : 5 to 4 Dodona, 0 to 1 Portree. Won by a length, Fighting Mac half-a-lcngth away. Time 1.4,}. St. Leger Stakes. Finland 1 Barbarossa 2 British Admiral 3 Betting: 4 to 1 on Finland, 5 to 1 against Barbarossa. Barbarossa led coming up to the straight, but Finland then challenged him, and coming up even at the distance, won p.ietty easily by two lengths, there being twelve lengths between the second and third horses. Time 8.0 i. NEWMARKET HANDICAP. Wakeful, 7.0 (including lOlbs penalty), 1 Fulminate, o.lo(including 71bs penalty), 2 Advance, 9.12 3 Betting: oto 2 Wakeful, 9to 1 Advance, 7 to 1 Watchdog, 12 to 1 Man of Honor, 16 to 1 Fulminate. From a fairly good start, Epitome was the first to show up, Watchdog next, and then Advanco and Wakeful. At the half-mile, Fulminate ran up to Advance, and So Long came next, Wakeful being well up on the extreme outside. Approaching the distance, Advance, who had been coming along at a fine pace, challenged Fulminate, Wakeful being pretty nearly even. The threo had a line set-to, which resulted in a win for Wakeful by three quarters of a length, with Advance a neck behind Fulminate. Then came Ferryman and Man of Honor. Time 1.16:}.

Speculation 1 First Mato 2 Keylass ... ... ... 8 Betting : 6 to 2 Speculation, 7 to 1 Royal Purple, 10 to 1 Boreas. Boreas (the New Zealand horse) was loft at the post, and thus lost several lengths. Contrast led round the turn ; then camo Boreas, who made a marvellous recovery. Speculation took charge at the distance, and won by three lengths, there being two lengths between the second and tim'd horses. Time, 2.9.
