WAIAPU RACES. Tho Waiapu races were held on Saturday, and passed off most successfully. The following were the results of the principal events Handicap Hurdles.—Huanui 1, Daniel O Connor 2. Maiden Handicap.—Maori Boy 1, Random Shot 2. Cup. Malcolm 1, Lindon 2, Wong Wong 3. ° District Handicap. —. Yacha 1, Gunpowder 2. Flying Handicap.—Malcolm 1, Unknown 2. Station Handicap.—Avalanche 1, Gunpowder 2.
A message sent prior to the race for the Newmarket Handicap states :—lt is a hot ' and oppressive day. In the latest bettinnAdvance was backed at 100 to 22. Aus° tralian was backed to win £6OOO at 100’s to 2 and 2}. Watchdog’s price was knocked about, but rallied to 100’s to 10. Wakeful was backed for £BOO at 4 to I.' Man of Honor was backed for £IOOO at 100’s to 6. The prices were; Wakeful 7 to 1, Advance 9 to I, Fulminate 100 to 8,
