Colonel E. W. D. Ward, C. 8., of tho Army Service Corps, has been appointed Permanent War, in succession to Sir Ralph Knox. Five people were killed and four badly injured by the burning of a houso at Birmingham. Fresh opposition is being shown to tho Jesuits in Spain and Portugal owing to the detention of several heiresses in Convents of the Order.
Paris, Feb. 25. A great strike of colliers has taken place in the north of France.
