A SERIOUS CHARGE.

THE JURY DISAGREE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wanganui, last night. At the Supreme Court this afternoon the case against Henry Roberts for alleged rape was heard. Accused was practically charged with having,after ascertaining that a woman’s husband was away from home, called at his house in Mangaweka late at night. Ho awakened the woman and told her he had brought ft parcel for her from her husband.

In this way he gained admission to the house and committed a criminal assault. No evidence was called for the defence. After hearing evidence the jury retired at 4 o’clock, and, not having agreed at 8 o’clock, were discharged. The case will be re-heard.
