A THOUSAND TIIOOPS WANTED FROM NEW ZEALAND.

MR BARTON SUGGESTS THAT HALF BE MAORIS.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, last night. Mr Barton, the Federal Premier,' has cabled to Sir Wilfred Laurier, Premier of Cauada, and to Mr Seddou, Premier of New Zealand, asking that each send a thousand troops for the Federal Parliament.

Mr Barton suggests that half the contingent from New Zealand should be Maoris.

The State Governments arc arranging for the Senate elections to be held on the same day as those for the Houso of Representatives.
