THE RECRUITING PROPOSALS. [by telegraph—PßESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, last night. The Premier and the Hon. Mr Ward were engaged in transacting departmental business this morning. At noon they witnessed the departure of the Imperial troop's. The Hons.-Dnncan and McGowan left for Rotorua this morning in order to "make arrangements with referepge to tree-plant-ing. ( At Waiotapu a meeting of the Cabinet was held, at which there were present Messi'3 Seddon, Wood, Duncan and McGowan. The fact was mentioned that Government had been.approached regarding the recruiting for the South African police in this colony, and that an answer had been sent that it was not desirable- in the interests of the colony. ' Communication was received from the Premier of Victoria, stating that a proposal had beep made to his Government and that a reply faaU been giyerj that the proposal could not be’ agreed 'to'. l ! *
An expenditure of £2,000 was authorised in connection with new works at Rotorua baths.
